With her ability to channel the enchanting nature of Erykah Badu and the no-nonsense dynamism of Nina Simone, Talibah Safiya is a truly spellbinding performer. Though she grew up in Memphis, Talibah’s music career had been rooted in Brooklyn, New York, where she opened for artists like Bilal and Pharcyde, until 2017 – her hometown called her back, and we’re lucky to have her perform at the Pure Memphis Music Series on March 8.
